Name: Karin Are you an Examiner? Yep. I write as the Charter Schools Examiner covering National Charter School Topics Work: Sort of a stay-at-home mom. I'm a writer when I work, but never home when I don't. How did you learn about charter schools? Confession: I was listening to one of those supermoms and she listed a local charter school as the must-go-to-school. We sent in a letter of intent and years later we became that lucky family! What makes you tick? My kids enjoy some of the best education in the United States. I want all kids to have access to quality schools like this. What else would we want to know about you? I am a total charter school dork. I love little weird nuggets of facts that most other people would give a hoot about. I am also a firm believer in school choice and parental involvement. Whether you home school or take your child to a public or private school--that's up to you (the parent). I applaud parents who set out to find the best solution for their kids!

Name: Donna I am the national Education Examiner. I write, work as an Human Resource Consultant, and manage rental property in addition to raising two teens. My son attended a charter school many years ago, when they first began. I strongly believe that parents should have more control over their children's education, and also they should have more options such as charter schools.

Hi -- I am the Boise Alternative Education Examiner, and have had experience with almost every type of schooling -- as a student, a parent, or a teacher, I have had experience with public schools, private schools (day and boarding), parochial schools, home schooling, military schooling, and Ivy League colleges -- but not yet any experience with Charter Schools!
I run a small private school in Idaho, and love to facilitate parental involvement and choice in education.

Carisa I'm the Biracial Family Issues Examiner for Portland, Oregon. I cover everything related to multiracial or multicultural families living in the Portland area and Pacific Northwest. I actually wrote a few articles about charter schools when I was a reporter for a community newspaper in Philadelphia. I have a particular obsession with hair care and books. I like meeting interesting people who have singular experiences!

Well said, Tere. I think the collection of folks that answered the call for the charter schools project shows that school choice supporters are a diverse group. It is finding the fit for your child and family which is important, not which type is politically correct. Welcome Michelle and Tere!
P.S. I am getting return email for some examiners. I know I'm having computer issues, but may also be getting spammed. If you hear from someone who thinks I am ignoring them, please ask them to email me...and the emails are posted in the forum. Thanks in advance!

Name: Dalissa Are you an Examiner? Yes. I am the Philadelphia Education and Parenting Examiner. Work: A little bit of everything! My make very little money jobs are writing and baking cupcakes. And, for the first time since having five children, I have returned to working outside my home. I now work part-time as a phone receptionist at a doctor's office for 7 seven doctors thanks to the economy. How did you learn about charter schools? Charter schools have been around for awhile in PA. I first heard about them when my children were young because Philadelphia has had a performing arts charter school probably since the law was enacted. When my children were older and I was looking for options other than homeschooling, PA passed the cyber charter school law and two of my children "attended" one of the very first cyber charter schools in our state. Since then, my oldest graduated from what I feel is the best of both worlds... a cyber charter school hybrid. My son's school had a choice of academic and performing arts classes that met in a brick and mortar building twice a week as well as online academic classes. My youngest three children have been attending the a different brick and mortar charter school for the past 6 years. What makes you tick? Finding the best educational options for my children and helping others to do the same. What else would we want to know about you? I like to do research. I bake a mean cupcake and am basically a cupcake snob.
